6393-12-26 - Vittoria Twelve-Light Chandelier from Cristal Lighting

Rare and beautiful in Italian lighting designs are those late 18th century chandeliers that have delicately scrolled candle arms bound to a central shaft with an entwining rope motif. Candle drip pans, or bobeches would skillfully replicate leaves, and bud-like ornament would spring from the graceful scrollwork. Fabric shades, which made their appearance in the 1780’s were added to prevent drafts from extinguishing the candles. This Victorian twelve-light chandelier captures both the expected functional requirements and the delicacy, form and the decorative beauty of traditional Italian design.
