 6011-2 - Valencia Alabaster Semi Flush Mount - On this Empire-inspired semi-flush ceiling mount, intricate detailing on the suspension rod and laurel leaves extending from a rosette clasp on the gold rim of the large bowl reflect the early 19th century admiration of classical Greek and Roman ornamentation.Note:  5024-1 - Bernhardt Wall Sconce - Despite electric light's infinite aesthetic possibilities at the turn of the 20th century, shades hiding the bare bulb were usually of floral inspiration. It appears that the creative energy of the designers of this period was often focused on their support. This time in history was known for its exquisitely elaborate linearity, with the individual hand-made curve being the most admired. This wall sconce's arm captures the grace and spontaneity strived for, while demonstrating the other Art Nouveau prerequisite, conscientious workmanship.Comes in a Silver and Gold Leaf finish with White Etruscan glass. Note:  6301-5-34 - Constantine Five-Light Chandelier - The Constantine FamilyAt the turn of the 20th century, advances in electric lighting coincided with the Art Nouveau movement. One historian has stated that this happy concurrence resulted in “the single most creative period in the annals of domestic lighting." Glass shades concealing the glairing filaments of early clear glass bulbs could now be mounted in any upward or downward direction. The Constantine five-light chandelier demonstrates that both approaches could be taken with the shade which is supported by arms inspired by curvilinear design characteristics of the New Art. The dominant motif, however, is the cluster of anthemion, a historic Greek and Roman motif that was also used in a vertical or downward direction. The distinctive shape of the iron that descends in to the conical glass fixtures is reminiscent of the shape of the crook and flail symbol of Egypt. This fixture incorporates ten beautiful serpentine line with reference to reeds neatly wrapped around the circumference of each curve. A representation of skilled craftsmanship, this lighting fixture becomes a conversation piece. Comes in a Rustic Iron finish with Stone accents and White Scavo glass. Note:  671-5 - Versaille Antoinette Wall Sconce - This 5-light wall sconce demonstrates the move away from the weighty and dense designs of the reign of Louis XIV with its new lyre-shaped framework. The lightness and transparency of this new style allowed for light to pass through the sconce, while at the same time revealing all the hand-cut crystal pendants. The delicacy of the fixture in combination with the gently lyre curves of the framework suited the new look of the Rococo and remained a very popular style of crystal fixture to the end of Louis XVI's reign. Note:  5340-2 - Segovia Wall Sconce - Two features of this unique cast 2-light wall sconce have somewhat unexpected origins. The addition of decorative chain has a precedent in the great sanctuary lamps and hanging lanterns designed by the Moors while they occupied southern Spain. The glass urn forms is frequently identified with the shape of an amphora or an ancient beaker with a pointed bottom. The glass itself is attempting to reproduce the appearance of ancient glass which has weathered or has been buried for centuries - now translucent, mottled, and aesthetically beautiful in its own right.Comes in a Bronze Patina finish with hand painted White Scavo glass. Comes in an Iron finish and Murano glass.Note:  6263-4 - Donatello Four-Light Nook Chandelier - The Donatello Family The Donatello four-light nook chandelier creatively blends two aesthetic influences into a comparable, unified whole. Note: Bulbs not included with this fixture.  5060-2 - Tuscany Wall Sconce - This Directoire 2-light wall sconce superbly illustrates the transition from the neo-classical style of Louis XVI to the oncoming new look in lighting fixtures for Napoleon. An outgrowth of the Arts and Crafts Movement, the Mission Style was characterized by relatively simple, functionalist design. A signature of this style was, and still is the square glass shades. At exactly the same time as the Mission Style flourished, so did the Art Nouveau style, immediately identified by the curving tendrils of iron, often integrated with flower and leaf motifs.  6455-29 - Cristallo Mini Pendant - The Cristallo Wrought Iron mini pendant features a Midnight Bronze finish. The improvement in glass making techniques made it possible in 16th century Venice to imitate fine, semi-precious rock crystal which was vulnerable to fracturing while being cut and polished. With this risk gone, lighting designers by the early 18th century had a myriad of crystal decorations available to ornament the framework of their chandeliers, the design potential of crystal glass having been fully explored. The flowers and foliage of nature remained a continuing source of design inspiration, and the intricate crystal buds, thrusting delicately outward and upward, continue this tradition on the Cristallo family of fixtures. Exquisite acanthus leaf-work overlaying the central frame and scrolled arms, and the decorative lace-like treatment of the front reinforce the imaginative artistry of the Italian design legacy. Note: Bulbs not included with this fixture.  99-4-78 - Iris Mirror - The Iris Family The Iris Family is rendered in Venetian tradition, where the Murano artisans had continued for centuries to demonstrate an in exhaustible creativeness, especially in the colorful glass art for which they were world famous. When the lyre fame was popular during the mid 18th century, the glass houses produced large festive chandeliers gaily dressed with brilliantly coloured glass accents. The visual fantasy of the iris mirror captures this spirit, which is further enhanced by the swirling tendrils, gold accents and delicate hand painted banded.  5026-1 - Gabrieli Wall Sconce - The superb technical skills and aesthetic tastes of the Venetian glassmakers on Murano are clearly evident in the exquisite glass shades on this Gabrieli iron wall sconce. By skillfully manipulating different glassblowing techniques into one glass shade resembling an opening flower, the traditional characteristics of Venetian glass are still obvious, namely unsurpassed clarity, lightness of weight, brilliance of color, and ductility, which permits astonishing fantasy of form. Comes in a Silver and Gold Leaf finish with White and Gold Murano glass and a Gold glass drop. Note:  630-8 - Bohemian Katerina Chandelier - This "dressed" or heavily draped 8-light chandelier features multiple swags of crystal buttons.
Note:  651-3 - Maria Theresa Wall Sconce - This 3-light Maria Theresa wall sconce, as it is still universally known, is a style identified with the 18th century Empress of Austria. Typical of the foreign aristocracy making a state visit to France, and in particular to the Palace of Versailles, the Empress was both awed and enchanted by the magnificent crystal chandeliers of Louis XV's court. Although there were only a few chandelier craftsman in France and they were almost all exclusively patronized, the Empress was able to assert her power to have similar models made and installed in her palaces in Vienna.Note:  6253-5 - Majorelle Iron Semi Flush Mount - This wrought iron semi-flush ceiling mount captures the very essence of the Art Nouveau style with its subtle yet sinuous linear supports. Note:  573 - St. Laurent Wall Sconce - The St. Laurent 21” Wall Sconce features a Burnt Ochre finish. The St. Laurent fixtures defy specific historic classification, but rely on period terminology to describe the impression one has when viewing these magnificent pieces of sculpture. Curving Tudor strapwork is uniquely assembled into a bold Baroque statement of continuous rhythm, generating a visual excitement rarely experienced in a lighting fixture since the 17th and 18th centuries. The glass shade contributes to the expression of vigorous movement, reflecting its original molten state of becoming. Note: Bulb not included with this fixture.  519 - Carlton Alabaster Wall Sconce - Highly elevated float lamps in an overall French Empire configuration suggests that the design inspiration for this 2-light wall sconce comes from the increasingly popular gasoliers of the mid-19th century Europe. The functional components on oil lamps have become in themselves the decorative features of the chandelier, enhanced with additional surface ornamentation where needed. The swelling outline of the float-lamp bowls further reinforce the design origin.Comes in a Bronze Patina finish with Cream Alabaster.
