In 1783 The Prince of Wales was only 21 when he bought land on an English beach and started to build an Indio-Chinese fantasy.   With its tantalizing curves, onion domes, minarets, and glimses through laticed porticos, the Royal Pavillion at Brighton remains a great symbol of a princely vision of an earthly paradise on the edge of the sea.
